Online gaming has been one of the most lucrative businesses in the recent past. Just about every household across the world has experience with at least a single online video game.
EQ2, WOW, COH, Diablo II, The Sims, and many more has brought people together in rather large numbers to defeat enemies, fight against monsters, heroes, demons, and much more. If there is an imagination for it, there is the chance that there can be a game for it.
This outbreak in gaming online has made a lot of companies very successful. Even in poor economies, the online gaming industry continues to thrive.
Running a successful online game depends on long term loyalty and a subscription base that is the reason why the game exists. The Sims Online ran for a good while quite successfully, but entered a recession upon losing its subscription base to other online games like Second Life, and World of Warcraft. The competition is tough and each company will fight hard to win over your money, with promises of an ultimate online experience.
MMos are not limited to just the computer. X-Box 360 and Playstation 3 have also become apart of the online world offering us the power to blow up lifelike tanks and kill giant monsters.
Games will sometimes give the ability to find out who is the better strategist by having them fight against one another. Like the Highlander, we walk with knowing, that there is only one, will it be us?
Sometimes MMOs will take out the game leaving us with only a social network in a world we can create and shape ourselves. Second Life lets users join for free, and build whatever you want, and allows for you to give anything in the game a specialized meaning.
Interact with others to create one of the largest social networks in the world.
For better or for worse, Online games aren’t going anywhere. Whether we are villains bent on world destruction, or just a social butterfly, MMOs give us a good way to reach out and see our imagination jump to life and share our imaginations with others in, our virtual world.
