It seems like commercial holidays come at us faster and faster these days. School has only just started and we’re already seeing signs of Halloween in the stores. Though it might seem precipitate, these displays are actually a good reminder to get going and plan your family costumes before it’s too late. Choosing the perfect Halloween costume can be difficult and even overwhelming with all the choices out there—so it’s best to get started well before the day in question. Don’t know how to pick a costume for your son? Here are a few handy tips to get you started.
Whenever you’re choosing a Halloween costume for a child—and this is especially true for boys—your fist consideration should be practicality. You’ll want to consider what kind of wear and tear the costume will get and narrow your choices accordingly. A delicate costume with lots of expensive and fiddly gadgets probably won’t hold up well at a rough and tumble party and a thin one won’t be a great choice for a cold wet night of trick or treating. As a basic guideline, you’ll want to choose something that is comfortable and non restrictive.
With the basics taken care of, your next concern should be with your child’s preferences. Ask your son what he wants to be and chances are that his answer will change six or seven times before the big day. In order to keep your sanity intact and please your child, try and narrow the field of options early on. There are tons of great boys Halloween costumes out there so pick two or three that you think will appeal to both you and your child and then turn the options over to him. That way you both get a say in the decision. Finally, make it clear that once made, the costume decision is final. Come Halloween, you’ll both be happy and comfortable.
