When you’re talking about draught beers, many European countries pride themselves on their heavy, malt stouts and ales. America on the other hand, makes those but prides itself on other beers as well (tastes great-less filling). Let’s explore 2011’s best choices for beer.
Beer is practically a religion in America. Beer and brats in the Midwest; football and beer anywhere; baseball and beer; in fact, beer at any given social event. But which ones are the best in America? (Stop me when you’ve actually heard of one of these) Coming in at number 10-Sierra Nevada Pale Ale; tied for spots eight and nine-Stone Ruination and Sierra Nevada Torpedo; number six is Stone Arrogant Bastard; spot number five-Bells Hopslam; tied for second and third place-Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA and Bell’s Two Hearted Ale. And the big number one beer in America for 2011-Russian River Pliny the Elder.
When it comes to worldwide recognized beers from around the world; that’s a whole different ballgame. Asia, United States and Europe hold blind competitions to decide on which beers will be eligible to be proclaimed the best beer in the world. Beers are judged in categories: wheat beer (Weihenstephaner Vitus-2011 winner of wheat and best overall) , stout and porter (Harvey’s Imperial Extra Double Stout-2011), lager (Samuel Adams Double Bock) and best ale (Deschutes Hop Henge-2011’s pale ale, and Rodenbach Grand Gru for best dark ale and best overall ale 2011).
Electric and other innovative beers took the world by storm in 2011. Reimagined session beers and crafted ales swept the beer lovers’ scene. Home brews and new company breweries are popping up all the time so the competition will most assuredly remain stiff for the upcoming years.
